A LITTLE READIN’ O’ THE GREEN FOR MARCH:

Ireland’s Saint, by J. B. Bury and Jon M. Sweeney

The Bloomington Public Library featured a display of Irish-themed books in March, 2022. One of them, Ireland’s Saint, offered a biographic look at the man whom people of all faiths have come to know as St. Patrick.

Of course, there are some gaps in the coverage since Patrick lived in the fourth century. And even the dates of his birth and death are open to question, although the Feast of St. Patrick is held on the supposed anniversary of his death: March 17.

This book makes every effort to show Patrick’s perspective, his relationships with others, and other world events as they relate to fourth century Ireland. It is worthy of reading anytime, but is especially poignant for this time of year.

And if you collect works like this, you can find it on line at a reasonable price. But if price is no object, you can find an expensive version too. And with the expansion project underway at Bloomington Public Library, it may not be available there this year.
